Drop Spindle for Beginners - Learn to Spin Yarn

Learn the basics of spinning yarn using a top whorl drop spindle.

You’ll learn the fundamental techniques of spinning fiber into yarn, from drafting fiber to adding twist. We’ll cover everything you need to get started, including:

- The anatomy of a drop spindle and how to use it effectively

- Basic spinning techniques and drafting methods

- Andean bracelet plying

- Tips for finishing your spun yarn

By the end of the class, you’ll have your own mini hank of handspun yarn to take home, along with the knowledge to continue spinning on your own.

Many spindle options are available and plenty of beginner friendly wool is on hand for use throughout the class, but feel free to bring your own spindles or fiber.

Spinning encourages spatial reasoning skills and dexterity, and is a great way to incorporate more movement into your day. Plus it's a portable skill you can take with you wherever you go.

Artist bio:

Casey learned to knit over twenty years ago, and then got distracted
by half a dozen other crafts. She in fact majored in Crafts at the
University of the Arts, although her concentration was Metals. A
couple of years ago, her fiber arts hobbies sprang out of dormancy,
and she returned to knitting, which quickly turned into learning to
spin yarn on both a drop spindle and a wheel. She's also dyes her own
fiber and just started growing a very small dye and fiber
garden in her backyard.
