Learn to Spin on a Drop Spindle

In this short spinning workshop you will learn to spin yarn on a drop spindle. This class makes a great date or friends night out! 

By the end of this class, you’ll be able to use a drop spindle efficiently enough to support your yarn endeavors. This method was the fastest way to spin yarn for thousands of years, until the invention of spinning wheels. It’s an ancient craft!

This class is great for beginners and lasts approx. 1.5 hours. No experience necessary.

Many spindle options are available and plenty of beginner friendly wool is on hand for use throughout the class, but feel free to bring your own spindles or fiber.

Spinning encourages spatial reasoning skills and dexterity, and is a great way to incorporate more movement into your day. Plus it's a portable skill you can take with you wherever you go.

Artist bio:

Jason Paris has been playing with yarn for at least 16 years, since his grandmother taught him how to knit. Since then, he has explored crochet, macrame, tatting, weaving, basketry, and — of course — spinning. Besides teaching ESL in Japan, he has also taught fiber arts around Philadelphia and through his position at Loop Yarn in Center City.
